Mendoza Malbec Sideways

In Mendoza after the hard time finding accomodation. After the long ride from Valparaiso, through the Andes and through the beautifull landscape of infinite vineyards crowned by the Andes we found our place in a cramped hostel. We spent a whole morning looking for one room, under the rain and with the backpacks on and all the taxis not stopping to our call. We went for a Bodegas tour. That is to a wineries tour, to see how the most important wine of Argentina is produced. First to an old bodega that dates back to 1958 and was at some point bought by some Germans. Infact is called Weinart. They had a private collection of Malbec wine from 1977. Which is supposed to have been a particularly good harvest. That’s the same age of Michiel so he was tempted into buying a bottle of that wine. To see how does a wine that is as hold as Michiel taste. He will be opening that bottle on his 30th birthday!
At the second winery Cecchin , the guide didn’t speak any English so I volunteered to be the interpreter for the many people on the tour who didn’t speak Spanish. Lots of dates and details to remember but that was fun.
We finished off the day by going to a Parilla restaurant and eating our first Argentinean stake, which was way too big, but very nice indeed. We were screwed on "la cuenta" by a guy that first pretended to be real nice and friendly and told me all about his family, when I told him that I was Italian. So that teaches me.... next time someone asks I will pretend I am from New Zealand!
